Vista, California is located just seven miles from the Pacific Ocean in North San Diego County. The residents enjoy a mild mediterranean climate with a wide array of outdoor activities in a setting of gentle rolling hills and pleasant rural surroundings.
The History and Culture
Vista was founded in 1845 after Mexico had gained independance from Spain. The city began with the creation of 3 Ranchos, and early settlers found difficult living conditions (due to a lack of water). The Vista Irrigation District finally recieved funding in 1923 which helped the city thrive and grow into one of the 50 Fabulous places to raise your family.
Vista, California, is one of the largest areas in North San Diego County. Having one of the largest concentrations of Japanese-American, and Latino, Communities in the region. Currently Vista houses 18 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, and 6 high schools. The largest of the schools being Rancho Buena Vista High School; with a charter school (Guajome Park Academy) being partially funded by the Vista Unified School District.
Theater buffs can find comfort in knowing that Vista is home to two city-supported community theaters. More mainstream shows, such as "Guys and Dolls" and "Les Miserables" are held at The Moonlight Amphiteater. Meanwhile, the local theater group (Premier Productions) hold more "Off-Broadway" style productions at The Broadway.
For Family fun; the Parks and Recreation departments run a Wave Waterpark, and Vista also features an Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum. You can also enjoy one of the many parks found in the area.
